The mystery school
A relationship to ourselves and our cosmos is not a problem to be solved; it's a mystery to be lived! This has always been the intention of mystery schools, whether ancient or contemporary.
What 20th-century therapy didn't seem to understand was that initiation requires entering into not only the unknown but the unknowable. It is essentially an initiatory experience that requires considerable patience and courage.
On this journey, one must often go through the stages of dissolution to find union. The alchemists taught us that the precious moments of “conjunctio” are inevitably followed by times of “separatio,” which must then bring the “nigredo” and times of sadness. Once that learning has been solidified, it can be much easier to move through the human journey.
From the initial spark, through the necessary descent into the shadow, we can emerge into conscious, deliberate co-creation.
